I found the main characters refreshing from the norm. While they hold true to the cliche of the chilalrous knight, they break from the mold as they despise all peasantry. I kept waiting for Calard to change his views of peasantry, but was glad when he didn't, only because if he had he would have fallen into the same cliche of so many other characters. I also felt the combat scenes were well written and described, so often authors skimp on the fight scenes or write breif accounts of epic battles All the bloody details are well described in full detail, gory warfare is certainly where Reynolds thrives.
It contains two books, two novellas, and one short story, focuses on a part of the world that is often ignored by other books, and contains a surprising amount of characterization.
The two novellas seem to have been printed hastily, as they contain several typos, but these did nothing to detract from the overall enjoyment of the story. Skip the first book, and you're ahead of the game By Jason Once you get past Knight Errant, this collection picks up considerably. Pretty much every character in the first book-- including the "protagonist"-- is a selfish git who you want to strangle before long. This is a collection of two novels and a few short stories, all of which follow the career of Calard of Garamont from his first battle all the way through a huge invasion and a last, desperate battle at the very gates of the capital city of Couronne.
It is an epic story arc, to say the very least, but you have to trudge or better, skip through the entire first book before you stop wanting to strangle the main character. Buy it used, it's not bad.
And if you're a fan of the Warhammer universe or Brettonia in particular, it ends up being a long "who's who" of Brettonian allies and enemies. Posting Komentar.

In earlier versions of the setting up to and including the 3rd edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle and the 1st edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay there was a separate Slann army based in Lustria. The background story of the Warhammer world described its creators as the "Old Slann" or "Old Ones" interchangeably.
Forces available to this army as allies or enemies included humanoid pygmies with blowguns and Amazonian warrior-women, as well as lobotomised slave-soldiers. In the third edition the warrior Slann were separated into various totem warrior groups, e.
Slann warriors rode Cold Ones into battle as did Dark Elves - a role taken by the Saurus in the current Lizardmen army. Lizardmen were a race entirely unrelated to the Slann, and who inhabited the deep caverns underneath Goblin lairs and Dwarf strongholds in the mountains east of the Old World. They were described one of the native creatures of the Warhammer world before the coming of the Old Ones.
The Slann had no use for the Lizardmen and they were driven underground. In the current version, the Old Ones created the Slann as their servants, and created the Saurus as their bodyguards from the creatures already living on the World The Red Duke Author : C.
Betrayed and struck down in battle, he rose again as a bloodthirsty vampire lord. After a campaign of butchery the undead fiend was defeated and entombed. Really one of my all time favorites from the Warhammer library.
Jay Little. Author 19 books 28 followers.
The Blackhearts series may be one of my favorite fantasy series of all time. Nathan Long does an excellent job creating interesting characters cut from the cloth of the grim Warhammer Fantasy setting by Games Workshop. The premise is simple and seen before -- a ragtag bunch of miscreants and criminals are forced to work together, hoping for a chance at redemption while in reality, they aren't given any other option.
The stories are compelling, the characters are interesting, and the action, drama, and suspense kept me glued to the pages. Austin Smith. Take the ideas, concepts and characters of the Warhammer and then you take the rough idea of both The Dirty Dozen and The Devils Brigade and you would begin to get the idea of The Blackhearts.
From start to bloody finish this set of boos is beyond amazing and good. The black humor of our hero and his companions, the situations they are forced into, and just the forces that aline themselves against them. All are above and beyond the call of what makes such a good and memorable book!
