If you buy World of Warcraft [vanilla version] now, it will download like 10GBs of updates before you can play. If your connection fails, or something goes corrupt then it's tough luck, still not retailers problem. Almost all the latest games need some form of online connectivity and will attempt to update or download files. I mean Assassin's Creed II requires you to be online while you play, the moment your connection drops you can't save or play further. That's why i've decided to get a good ISP with lots of cheap bandwidth to do all these things without constantly feeling i'm now paying "extra" for the game, in the end, i now end up buying the game digitally from the start and mostly it's updated already.

That said: Usually the retail box will state on the box something in the lines of "Requires Internet Connection to Play" , if it's not there , you might have a case with BT Games [as in you can tell them "i don't have internet, and this game doesn't work without internet and nowhere does it state i need internet".
